Last September I supported Lisa, with her mother Barbara, to attend her goal planning meeting at the HVDRT. Her co-ordinator, Dorothy, told Lisa about an event she might like to enter – the TriAbility triathlon. Lisa could choose the 300m swim, 11km cycle or 2.5km walk. Lisa decided that with support she would like to do all three sections of the event. I was more than keen to support Lisa to do this. So for the next few months Lisa trained hard, with the support of her wonderful family and her fantastic support team, to train for all three events at the gym and pool.
The organisers hope that even more people compete next year and Lisa and I are keen do it again. I was so proud of Lisa’s efforts and proud to compete alongside her.
Finally the day arrived, the weather was overcast but warm, and we were at the Wainuiomata Pool at 8am. After a briefing and a warm-up we were in the pool for the 300m swim. Then we did the 11km cycle and the 2.5km walk. We were both very tired towards the end but Lisa gave a last burst of energy to run to the finish Line. She was so pleased to finish all three events as not many other people did.
