Project Description

I’ve been playing ten pin bowling on and off since 2008. Recently I took it up again and am
really enjoying it. In July, I was selected to be part of the Hawkes Bay team that participated in the Manawatū Tenpin Bowling Tournament.

The Hawkes Bay team left at 5pm on Friday, 19 July 2019, from Superstrike in Omahu Road, Hastings. We stopped for a dinner break at McDonalds in Dannevirke and arrived at our motel in Palmerston North at 9:30pm.

The next morning our team-mate, Karen, cooked us a breakfast of bacon and eggs. We got to the Manawatu bowling tournament by 9am for a full day of competitions. We were allowed a few practice runs before the competition began. The games ended with the day’s prizegiving.

We had a smorgasbord on Saturday night for tea. We had hoped to go dancing but this had to be cancelled.

On Sunday morning, the pairs competition took place, followed by the team competitions after the lunch break. I placed third in the pairs competition. The Hawkes Bay team came fourth overall.

After the Sunday prizegiving, we packed up and returned home. We didn’t get back to Hastings until 6pm. My brother picked me up from Superstrike and we went out for tea. He dropped me off at home later that evening.

We travelled a long way, but we met lots of new people and had fun together. It was an
interesting weekend. Thanks to Tony, Ian, Karen and everyone else on the Special Olympics
team for a fun and well organised event.
